PRESIDENT’S
REPORT
ANNUAL
MEETING 6/16/07
As
one door closes, another one opens. We welcome our new board members
today, as we reflect on the accomplishments of the past 12 months. We
have worked long and hard to come together for our community. We
have had serious issues to deal with over the past year, and managed
to laugh along the way on occasion, too. We have shared a common
yearning for a sense of wholeness & relatedness in our beloved
community. Here we have found support and resources to fulfill that
yearning. Here are some of the things that we have accomplished.
POLICY
- Expectations of Board Members => adopted
August 2006
- Job Descriptions for Staff => adopted
September 2006
- Annual Board Orientation => adopted January
2007
- Committee Work Flow
(Issue
=> Committee Assignment => Research & Review
=>
Democratic Process to form Recommendations => Recommendation to
BOD => Board Action)
FINANCIAL
- Budget Committee made eighteen recommendations to
the BOD in August 2006 after an extensive financial review. Of these
recommendations fifteen have been adopted and implemented. Out of their
work another committee was formed to investigate How to Make
the Lounge More Profitable. This Restaurant Committee, after
an extensive review, made nine recommendations to the BOD in February
2007. Of these, eight recommendations have been adopted and
implemented.
- Monthly Statements have been consistently
distributed to the BOD in advance of the meetings.
- A professional audit of 2005 and 2006 has been
conducted, providing a solid foundation of “where we are
financially” for the future.
- Dues Increase was sought twice to fund fully the
Reserves. Although this issue did not pass, alternate methods to fund
the reserves will be examined, including another Dues Increase Campaign
early in 2008. Some ideas that will be investigated toward this end are:
* User Fees for Recreational Facilities
* Monthly Food/Beverage Basic Fees for Home Owners
COMMUNICATION
- Roberts Rules have been observed in all meetings.
Written agendas have been provided.
- Website has been updated twice each month,
including minutes from board meetings, special meetings and events,
photos and committee participation.
- Staff meetings have occurred monthly, bringing
staff and board members together for discussion.
- Town hall meetings (today is the third opportunity
in 2007 that our property owners have had a chance on a weekend to
interact with members of the BOD)
TEAMWORK
- Volunteer Recruitment => Committees serve
the community in many ways, and also provide leadership development for
future members of the BOD. Here TC volunteers learn leadership skills
(communication, consensus, responsible participation, listening, style
diversity, and task accomplishment)
- Common Goals => We communicate our purpose
in small and large ways
- Civilized Disagreements => We are aware and
respect one another’s gifts, reserving the right to
one’s individual opinion, while respecting that of another
- Responsible Participation => We acknowledge
our job and are accountable for the results as a group
- Shared Leadership => We empower each other
to share in getting the job done
We
have served less in shadow this year in order to bring more light to
the community. We have sought guidance via our three governing
documents: Articles of Incorporation, Covenants, and By Laws. Our
vision for the coming 12 months will begin to take shape during our
Orientation meeting next Saturday.
This
vision comes ultimately from you! This vision is not found in the
mind that claims, “We’ve tried that and it
didn’t
work!” but, rather in the mind that asserts,
“HOW
can we make that happen!”
